As an award-winning photographer,‭ ‬Veronica L Yankowski knows how to tell a story in a single frame.‭ ‬In‭ ‬2005 she left the newspaper industry after 11 years and applied her dramatic documentary style to portraiture,‭ ‬which opened new creative possibilities for her work.‭ ‬She named her company VeroLuce Photography.‭ “‬Vero‭” –‬a play on her name‭ –‬is the Latin word for truth,‭ ‬as is‭ “L‬uce‭” ‬for light.‭ ‬She photographs her subjects in the best light possible,‭ ‬all the while capturing their true personality and creating portraits that are often described as‭ “‬soulful.‭”

When we were outside doing some formal photos I noticed this mirror hanging on the side of the house. I knew I wanted to incorporate it in an image. I took my shoes off and climbed on top of the patio set so I could see her reflection in the mirror. I knew I would be able to make an image that the bride loved immediately!

We made this photo during a hot afternoon with a $5 bubble machine. I had used it previously at a wedding and I knew I could do something a little different with a willing couple. Kristen and Corey were totally up for whatever I had in mind. With a little backlight and a bubble machine (that broke after this image was taken) we were able to create something magical for such a darling couple.

As I was setting up bridal prep photos, the little girl and her mother went into the bathroom to give us some privacy. But she couldn't help but come out and take an early peak at her aunt!

I was so excited to be invited to New Orleans to photograph the wedding of Linda and Eddie. Linda was a client of mine turned dear friend over the years so when she got engaged and planned her wedding in New Orleans and asked me to photograph I was honored. Linda and Eddie are a special couple and are not into the "traditional" images. She didn't want ring shots and bridal prep or many posed portraits and in her words she wanted shots of them "walking down the street having fun." So we did! This image is the front of where their reception was to be held. From the front it looked like any other building in the French Quarter. And all of the vendors trucks were parked on the street in front so it was horribly distracting. So instead I panned the camera up to rid the frame of the distractions and I just loved the warmth of the sun flare. This turned out to be one of my favorites from the day.

I was so thrilled when Andrea & Erik contacted me about 2 weeks before their wedding wanting to try working with colorbombs! I had the couple do some tests prior to see how long the smoke would last, if it would stain the dress and if they would be too hot to hold. By the time the day came we were ready but Hurricane Matthew had different plans. Instead of being a gorgeous autumn day, it was dreary and drizzly. But we were able to make a few shots before the rain took over! This one is definitely a lot of fun!

When I found out they were going to fill the dance floor with smoke, I knew I wanted a unique angle. I had a short meeting with my second shooter and assistant and told them I'd be shooting from the top of the staircase to get a wide view and my second could shoot from the floor. I directed my assistant where she was to hold my light to illuminate it and to watch me for signals. Im so thrilled we were able to capture this image of their first dance.

Amanda & Brian's wedding took place at the Jersey Shore. It was just before sunset and the colors were nice and warm. The couple love everything to do with the beach. I thought this location was a perfect place to make some portraits. It had nice light, an earthy feel, and the muted colors really made the tux and gown pop.

This photo is a very special one as it is taken at the 911 Memorial at Liberty State Park. The new One World Trade is the building between the couple. Doug and Robyn met in NYC and it is a very special place for them personally and professionally. They spent years working together in the city and didn't date until Robyn was moved to a different department. Typically I wouldn't shoot at the memorial because it is a beautifully done sacred space. I photographed the events of 911 and the aftermath and it is, to this day, very emotional. But the couple told me a private story making it significant for them and they wanted some images there, so I obliged for them. This is what we created. I look at it and it think of hope and second chances and it makes me smile.

Matt and Michelle hired me to come to New Orleans to document their special day. I arrived 2 days prior to their wedding to scout out locations and familiarize myself with the city and I took a tour of the Lafayette Cemetery and the Garden District. It was so incredible and I knew i wanted to somehow get my couple there for photos, but the cemetery is normally locked unless a tour is going on. I spoke to the tour guide and she told me what time to be there the day of the wedding and she was able to give us 10 minutes alone in the cemetery to make some photographs. The couple was so excited for the opportunity and this is one of my favorites. Taking that extra time to make a connection and plan for the day helped me get the couple images they never thought possible.

As the couple was exiting the church I was just behind them gathering my things. And then I saw all of their loved ones look up at them and I thought how remarkable it was that everyone they love is right there at that moment and filled with love for them. I thought that was the perfect way to capture a photo of "everyone" and really showcase the joy of the day!

I was getting ready to leave the reception for the night and the couple was walking me out. As we walked past the building I unpacked my bag and told them I had one more idea for a photo and would they pose for a quick second. The lights were just too cool not to use. They obliged and we created one of my favorite images from that day.

This is one of my favorite images of all time. This couple was actually being filmed that day for an episode of TLC's Four Weddings. It was a day filled with producers and cameras, but we found a spot down the beach a little farther that offered us some privacy and when they heard the musician playing some tunes, they began to dance. It was a perfect impromptu moment. And they did win that episode of Four Weddings!

Danielle and Brendan had an absolutely perfect autumn day for their wedding. We were doing portraits at Deep Cut Gardens and it is one of the most popular places for wedding portraits so I was definitely trying to find a way to do something different. After the formal portraits I had the idea to do something fun with the bridal party and asked if they were up for a leaf fight! They loved the idea! I told them instead of throwing them at each other to toss them in the air so it looked like it was raining leaves. The lighting was perfection to bring the autumn colors to life! It's always more fun when couples and their bridal parties are up for anything and trust that I have a good idea up my sleeve to make a great photo.

This image was shot last May on location in Nashville. We were exiting the recording studio where the couple had their ceremony and as we left the light was blinding and hit the couple perfectly! They were walking ahead of me and I yelled at them to stop where they were because the light was beautiful! This is what we created!
