Wow, this was an exceptional day. This lovely couple eloped on Dartmoor in August, we had an amazing 5 hours to shoot! We'd just finished a sunset silhouette and about to call it a day when we spotted the moon at the top of the hill. We all had a very excited look in our eyes, like children on Christmas day! I think I'll remember the couple running to the top of the hill for some years, they were thrilled to have a photo by the moon.
I've been in love with these trees for some time now, seeing them in photos here and there, always visualising how I'd love to shoot the scene. Then I got the chance and couldn't have asked for more. Trees are incredible, sunsets are incredible, and most of all two people who dedicate their lives to one another.
I actually get excited when it rains on a wedding day. My mind starts planning something super cool for them. It's a bit of a buzz; all at the same time I am trying to keep them as dry as possible, keep my kit dry, and dial in just the right amount of flash power. Backlit rain seems to have such a magical effect for me.
Of course, I get mega excited at the 'golden hour' too; that warm romantic glow from the sun. It's good to use the weather to your advantage, you never know what you might end up with by just having some fun and trying things out.
Louise & Lloyd had got married in this exact same spot an hour before. What a beautiful building! I just knew I had to get a shot like this when I saw those windows. I placed an orange maggel on the flash behind them to give me that colour, and a maggrid to centre the light. Such a fun couple to work with.
These guys got all dressed up again to celebrate their 10 year anniversary - they even wore the same outfit. During the photo session a cigar was discovered in his pocket which was given on the actual wedding day 10 years ago. I had a beautiful time with these two, really easy going, up for trying anything. We went to the Donkey Sanctuary near Exeter, and walked down the coast from there.
Oh boy, what a wedding! Such a brilliant couple, so much fun going on all day. They had lots of lights and fire sticks around. I saw these candelabras on their tables during dinner, so when the food was all munched up I rounded up the ushers to each hold a candle around the couple. It worked beautifully. The next minute they went in to dance to their awesome ceilidh!
