These two adventurous souls came to Hawaii to celebrate the anniversary of their marriage. They reached out to me in search of a Hawaiian adventure true to their hearts. We hiked down into the sea cliffs off the coast of Oahu at sunrise, where the waves smash and swirl against the lava rock. It was a truly spectacular morning. For this shot, I slowed my shutter just enough to capture the movement and energy of the water.
Nothing gets me more excited than curating a couples unique love story, especially when that story involves adventure. These two were born and raised in Hawaii and we wanted to celebrate their marriage by hiking into the active volcano from Kilauea and capturing their gorgeous bridal portraits. We left at 3:30am, so that we’d get there prior to sunrise. The hike was several miles in the pitch black, underneath a gorgeous meteor shower with only the light of headlamps. Walking across the lava field was absolutely terrifying, through the cracks beneath your feet you could see the molten lava beneath, and feel the heat radiating out. Randomly lava would burst through and flow before hardening over and turning black again. Talk about a rush!

This is Alex + Mike! A hilarious and sweet couple who’s wedding I get the pleasure of shooting at the Santa Barbara courthouse later this year. Because they’re getting married in the famous “Mural Room” (AMAZING!) it only seemed fitting we capture their engagement photos around some of the gorgeous local murals around Honolulu’s Kaka’ako district.
Alyce + John are as hilarious as they are cute together. John won Alyce over with with one heck of a card trick and it’s been a fairytale ever since. The image was captured in Las Vegas, NV last month down off Fremont St near Container Park where the “Life is Beautiful” festival is held. This awesome wall is by artist Ruben Sanchez!
Rachel + Andrew. Talk about an adorable duo. This photo was taken at gorgeous Paradise Cove Ocean Gardens on the island of Oahu just following Rachel + Andrew’s destination Hawaiian wedding. As they shared a sweet kiss, the sun flared through the jungle creating the most magical of moments. Canon 5dmkiii
Vernon contacted me to capture his gorgeous proposal to Maggie on Waikiki Beach. I recommended sunrise as it’s an amazing time in the morning with gorgeous soft cotton candy colors. He requested we write a beautiful quote in the sand, a quote that had kept their long distance relationship thriving for the previous 6 years. As Vernon walked Maggie down the beach suddenly she saw the words that had she had been holding so dear to heart for the past 6 years and immediately burst into tears. “Anything is possible to a willing heart.” Vernon took Maggie’s hand and led her into a heart made of 100 purple orchids where he dropped to one knee, just as the sun poked it’s head over Diamond Head and asked Maggie a very important questions. (and in case you were wondering, she said “Yes!” ;)
Codi + Justin contacted me to capture their gorgeous engagement photos while here in Hawaii. Codi’s family is from the island so they wanted their engagement photos to capture this special place. They met each other while attending University and instantly fell in love. This adventurous couple decided to get wet near the end of their session. The passion is quite obvious between these two, as I just let it take over while they enjoyed each other in the sand.
This is Melissa + Dane recently married on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. We were out shooting bridal portraits when a storm hit, as our driver was returning to the venue I noticed this massive swing hanging off a tree on the coast swaying in the wind. I immediately had our driver pull over. The wind was whipping the couple around, but the couple ever so in love and excited about just becoming Mr + Mrs were lost in the moment and just embraced the elements as they were, resulting in this sweet moment.
